Welcome to the Newtown Bwabwa Academy

Welcome to Newtown Bwabwa Academy (NBbA) Inc, a non-profit organization deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Dominica. Established in August 2017, NBbA has been committed to nurturing the youth of Dominica by providing them with valuable lessons in leadership and cultural entrepreneurship through the vibrant art of stiltwalking. We are proud to share that our efforts have been recognized and supported by various esteemed organizations.

Our Mission and UNESCO Grant

NBbA's primary mission is to empower the youth of Roseau South, enabling them to harness their potential and embrace their cultural identity. In pursuit of this mission, we were honored to receive a prestigious grant from UNESCO in 2023. This grant has allowed us to implement an exciting project titled "Empowering Youth of Roseau South through Stilt Walking and Performance as a form of Cultural Entrepreneurship.

Collaboration with Key Partners

At NBbA, collaboration lies at the heart of our success. We have had the privilege of working closely with prominent organizations such as the Youth Development Division, the National Youth Council of Dominica, and the Thunderbirds, one of the oldest serving carnival bands in Dominica. Through these strategic partnerships, we have been able to reach a wider audience and make a more significant impact on the community.

During our 2023 Cultural Entrpreneurship throug Stilt Walking Summer Camp, we worked closely with Junoir Achievement Dominica, Cultural Icon Mr. John Riviere and renowned Sensay Builder Mr. Nelson Henry. The introduction of entrepreneurship through the lens of culture was well recieved by the participants who also profited to make various cultural artefacts.
